Artist’s Statement

This painting explores the fluid, chaotic energy hidden just beneath the surface of the natural world. Inspired by the organic geometry of wood grain, churning water, and topographical maps, I wanted to capture a landscape caught in a state of continuous transformation. The swirling, concentric brushstrokes dissolve rigid forms into a hypnotic, undulating rhythm, mimicking the geological forces that shape our environment over millennia.

The composition balances a dense, earthy mass of swirling ochres and muted greens against a sudden, vibrant pool of turquoise at the base. This striking contrast serves as an emotional and visual anchor, suggesting a sudden uncovering of clarity or a subterranean spring bursting into light. Ultimately, the work is a meditation on the invisible currents—both ecological and psychological—that pulse silently through the spaces we inhabit.

This work investigates the intersection of geological time and sensory memory within the landscape. The composition is built around an expansive, central distortion—a swirling vortex of muted earth tones, soft pinks, and weathered greens that echoes the ancient rings of ancient timber, shifting tectonic strata, and the violent churn of a river eddy. By pulling these microscopic and macroscopic patterns into a singular view, the painting reimagines the natural world not as a static setting, but as a living archive of movement and survival.
